Have you ever had the Rodeo Cheeseburger from Burger King? Now they offer something called the Rodeo Burger, but that’s not what I’m talking about -- I mean the real deal one, the Rodeo Cheeseburger that they used to have. As an eight year old, it was excellent.
Burger King doesn’t offer the Rodeo Cheeseburger anymore, but All-Way is offering a surprisingly dolled up version of it for Portland Burger week called the Bacon Blue Cheese Barbecue Burger. It’s like if the Rodeo Cheeseburger went off to college, listened to Bob Marley, put up a bunch of Che posters, graduated and then wanted be some sort of professional. It’s traded in the American cheese for blue cheese, upped the condiments, but managed to keep its head level with two onions rings -- just like mom and dad would’ve wanted.
The Bacon Blue Cheese Barbecue Burger is pretty similar in scope to All-Way’s normal offerings, which, if you’re a fan of, you’ll love. It’s a simple and straight forward take on the classic rodeo cheeseburger (which, sadly, was not invented by Burger King), but is made more complex by All-Way’s standards: their house sauce, an Alessio bun and killer pickles. The blue cheese is a welcome switch up and the thick juicy slab of bacon is a much needed part of any rodeo cheeseburger. On the suspect side, the barbecue sauce was a bit lacking and there was more char than you’d expect. Neither are catastrophic level negatives.
If you’re looking for a high-quality spin on the classic rodeo cheeseburger, I’d easily say go for it.
P.S. LIFE HACK: if you want the Rodeo Cheeseburger, just add ‘cheese’ to the ‘Rodeo Burger’. If moderately intoxicated, it’s still delicious.
